Dr. Ronni Ephraim, the former deputy superintendent and area superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District, is an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Clinical Education at the USC Rossier School of Education. In addition to teaching in the school’s doctoral and masters programs, Dr. Ephraim is the Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer of 2U Inc, which partners with top tier colleges and universities to create the world’s best online programs. Her responsibilities include the development of online curriculum, faculty relations and partnership development for the USC Rossier School of Education.
Prior to joining USC and 2U, Ronni worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District for 33 years. As Deputy Superintendent, she played a lead role in the adoption and district-wide implementation of research-based programs. The efforts resulted in nine consecutive years of significant improvement in elementary reading and math achievement in the District’s 460 elementary schools.
Dr. Ephraim served as the District’s Chief Instructional Officer for Elementary and Secondary Instruction. She also served as a Local District Superintendent serving 63,000 students in grades PreK-12, an Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Programs and Language Acquisition and as Director of District Reading Programs at the central office level. She served as an elementary school principal for 10 years and taught kindergarten through sixth grade for eleven years.
She has served as a member of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Advisory Committee for English Language Arts and the California Department of Education Committee on Reading First.
