DSAG endowment challenge hits $78K and climbs closer to initial $100K goal

Published on

Momentum continues to build as members of the Dean’s Superintendents Advisory Group (DSAG) get closer to their initial goal of raising $100K by January 31, 2013 to establish the DSAG Endowed Scholarship Fund. The endowment will support future USC Rossier EdD candidates aspiring to become superintendents.

The DSAG Endowment Challenge met its first milestone of raising $50K on July 31st, prompting a gift from the Dean’s unrestricted fund. Since then, the DSAG Challenge total has risen to $78K. Members have until January 31st to raise the remaining funds in order to successfully establish the endowment, which will support its first students in the 2014–15 academic year.

Once the DSAG Endowed Scholarship Fund is established, annual gifts can be made to grow the fund and award more scholarships in the future. Every gift made to the fund counts toward The Campaign for the USC Rossier School of Education.

John Roach EdD ’88, chair of the DSAG Endowment Challenge, said this is an opportunity for the Trojan Family to support its doctoral students, who are the future leaders of education.

“California educators are being asked to meet the highest standards while being funded at the lowest levels in America,” Roach said. “To make a difference for the students, we need leaders trained to transform education in urban schools.”

DSAG is comprised of approximately 160 active or retired superintendents who are USC alumni. In addition to fundraising for student scholarships, DSAG helps strengthen partnerships between USC Rossier and school districts locally and statewide. In addition to its Endowment Fund, DSAG has been awarding two scholarships each year to current EdD students at its annual awards dinner in January.

All Rossier family and friends are encouraged to make a gift to the DSAG Endowment by visiting giveto.usc.edu. Donors who make a gift of $500 or more by January 31st will be recognized as founding partners on a commemorative plaque that will be displayed in the lobby of Waite Phillips Hall.

For more information about the DSAG Endowment Challenge or to make a gift over the phone, please contact Diana Hernandez, Director of Annual Giving, at dehernan@usc.edu or (213) 740-3499.

A special Thank You to the DSAG members who have made a gift:
