The School Business Management Certificate is a hybrid program with study being 75% online and 25% in-person at USC campuses.
The 2018-19 program will begin with a 5-day residential session called Boot Camp held July 25-29, 2018. Boot Camp is held at the USC University Park Campus located near downtown Los Angeles. In this session, you will meet your fellow students and learn the technology you will use throughout your time online. More importantly, you will get immersed in the how-to of overseeing a K-12 business operation whether it be in a district or charter school setting.
On January 15 and 16, 2019, the class will reconvene in Sacramento to attend the Governor’s Budget Workshop sponsored by School Services of California, Inc. The session will also focus on getting ready for the Capstone Project which is the summative assessment activity or the program.
The program concludes June 20-23, 2019 with the Leadership Capstone Session. This session will be held at the USC Orange County Center in Irvine. This is where you will give your final project presentation as well as receive personal coaching on your resume preparation and your interviewing skills. A ceremony celebrating the culmination of the program is held and families are invited to attend.
In the months connecting your residential experiences, you will work in online learning environments that support both live and self-paced learning. You should plan on spending approximately 8-10 hours per week during the weeks that connect your in-person sessions. Your live sessions are held most Mondays from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Your group and individual assignments have deadlines but can be completed at your pace.
