Bio

Andrea Macias is PhD student in Urban Education Policy in the Educational Psychology concentration. Her areas of expertise include support networks (family, peers), Latinx students, and Community Cultural Wealth.

Her work aims to inform higher education institutions on how they can best support Latina community college students/transfers' holistic success. Her research agenda focuses on the reciprocal relationship between Latinas and their support networks, especially as it relates to Latinas' success in higher education.

Andrea is a McNair Research Scholar and earned her B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Andrea has dedicated her career to helping Black, Brown, and Indigenous students navigate post-secondary opportunities. Previous to her starting the Rossier PhD program, she served as a mentor for racially marginalized students in K-12 and higher education for the UCLA Transfer Mentorship Program, Hawthorne High School, and many other organizations.

*** I welcome opportunities to discuss applying to USC’s PhD program in Urban Education Policy and undergraduate studies at the University of California system with any prospective first-gen/low-income/transfer/racially marginalized students. Please feel free to reach out via email with "Prospective Student" as the subject line. ***
