Rodney Goodyear's scholarship focuses on several areas that sometimes overlap. His focus on processes and outcomes of counselor training and supervision has spanned two decades. His other areas of current research focus include: (a) processes and outcomes in the interpretation of psychological test data to clients; (b) teenage pregnancy, especially as the male partner is involved; and, (c) how gender and ethnicity affects professional and other behaviors.

Professor Goodyear is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, a licensed psychologist in the state of California, and currently serves on the Executive Board of the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs and as Chair of the APA Division 17 Section on Counseling and Psychotherapy Process and Outcome Research. He is co-author of Fundamentals of Clinical Supervision (3rd edition), co-editor of Scientist-Practitioner Perspectives on Test Interpretation, and currently serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Counseling Psychology, Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, The Clinical Supervisor, and Psychotherapy Research.
