Admissions Criteria

Global Executive cohortAs a program designed for established senior leaders, admission to the Rossier Global Executive EdD program is competitive and highly selective. The Admissions Committee seeks students whose academic background, professional experience, demonstrated leadership abilities, and communication skills meet the demands of the program and show promise for continued growth as an educational leader.

Academic Background

The Admissions Committee looks for candidates whose prior academic work demonstrates the capability to succeed in a rigorous graduate program. An advanced degree (such as a Master’s degree or JD) from an accredited institution is required. Applicants whose prior study was outside the United States must have completed the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree. In cases where a candidate does not have a Master’s degree recognized by USC, the candidate must have an equivalent amount of post-graduate coursework demonstrating well-developed analytical and communication skills and a rigorous academic background suitable for success in the program.

There are no set prerequisite courses or majors, and prior coursework in education is not required. The Committee reviews performance in all prior post-secondary coursework.

Professional Experience

Prior work experience is an important component of an applicant’s preparation. Entering students will have extensive leadership experience in one or more organizations, demonstrating a high level of professional accomplishment and upward mobility. Qualified candidates will have at least 10 or more years of senior leadership experience in organizations such as:

  • Ministries of education
  • Universities
  • Schools or school systems
  • Education-related multilateral or non-governmental organizations
  • Education-related corporations

Experienced leaders from other sectors seeking to transition into the field of education may also be suitable candidates for the program.

The Committee looks closely at employment history, weighing skills, aptitude for senior levels of leadership, and knowledge of the education profession.

Leadership Abilities

The ideal candidate is already in a leadership role and poised for even higher levels of leadership after completion of the Global Executive EdD. Competitive applicants will have a record of involvement and leadership in both their personal and professional lives.

Interview

Promising candidates will be required to complete an interview with members of the Admissions Committee. This interview will assess the applicant’s suitability for the program in terms of professional experience and goals, and for non-native English speakers it will also assess the candidate’s ability to function at a high academic level using the English language. Command of academic level English across all skill areas (reading, writing, speaking, listening) is essential for success in this program. Successful applicants will exhibit the ability to participate fully and actively in a 100% English-language academic learning environment.
