Why Viet Nguyen loved the MAT Online online program
MAT Online alum Viet Nguyen recently addressed the USC Rossier Board of Councilors to tell them how much he appreciated participating in the online Master of Arts in Teaching program. He said that although it was more expensive than other online programs, he definitely got what he paid for.
He said he loved having access to great professors such as Anthony Maddox, Julie Slayton and Darline Robles, as well as their research-based teaching methods. He noted that when he has mentioned terms such as ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development) to graduates of other online programs, they haven’t known what he’s talking about.
Viet also appreciated how the online platform allowed him to spend more time with his family. He didn’t have to waste time commuting back and forth to campus. He also said that he received excellent student teaching and mentoring opportunities, and was able to put his research into practice.
How has it impacted his life? He got a great job! Even though the job posting had expired, the USC Rossier career placement specialist had a connection and made sure that his resume would be considered. He appreciated that the career specialist kept in touch with him even though he had already graduated, and said, “USC really came through.”
He said that he is grateful that he had the opportunity to participate in the online MAT program, because it has helped his life tremendously.
