Global Executive EdD student Candice Bledsoe has been named a recipient of a Southern Methodist University (SMU) Profiles in Leadership Community Award for 2013. Candice is the Founder of the Cutting Edge Youth Summit & Poetic Diamonds. This award recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of women who have made a significant impact on the city of Dallas and on the quality of life for women overall.

Bledsoe’s first academic publication will be available Spring 2013 through Demeter Press: Laboring Positions: Black Women, Mothering and the Academy edited by Sekile Nzinga-Johnson, May 2013. The article is titled, “Community Property: Communal Ownership of Their Daughter’s Degrees.” (Chapter 1) She co-authored the article with Giovanni Dortch, a current University of North Texas, Sociology PhD student.
