Garcia PhD ’11 publishes book about undocumented students
Lisa Garcia PhD ’11 recently published a book, Undocumented and Unwanted: Attending College against the Odds, based on her dissertation research. The book chronicles the experiences of nine undocumented immigrants attending a four-year public university in California before the passage of the California Dream Act and the implementation of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). Garcia is currently a postdoctoral research associate in the Pullias Center for Higher Education. She uses qualitative methods to study general issues of equity, access, and diversity specifically pertaining to first-generation college students. Her postdoc allows her to continue working on projects that focus on increasing access to college for Los Angel es-area students.
