Russell McFall

Russell is a first year Urban Education Ph.D. student, advised by Morgan Polikoff. He is interested in policy research for urban schools in order to create more equitable schooling all students. In particular, Russell is interested in after-school programs and the outcomes they produce for low income students and students of color, the role of sport in education, and school finance for urban districts.

Prior to USC, Russell taught 5-8th grade social studies, language arts, literature, and physical education at St. Jarlath School as a part of the University of Notre Dame's Alliance for Catholic Education program. In addition to teaching, he also coached athletic teams and tutored students. He also has experience as an Instructional Designer at Creighton University and in Coach Relations for Hudl, a software company that provides video and statistical analysis tools for athletic teams.

Russell's experiences working with students, teachers, coaches, and professors motivate him to study programs and institutions that help students achieve positive outcomes in academics and social and emotional development. He believes that education is not limited to the classroom and that programs outside of school hours can reduce the inequity present in education today.
