Beating the Odds
The USC College Advising Corps is a group of dedicated young people who work with local high schools to prepare students to apply to colleges and select an institution of higher education. The members of the USC College Advising Corps are often first-generation college students, inspired by their own school counselors to pursue a postsecondary degree.
Corps members teach students how to choose schools that fit, avoid undermatching, navigate financial aid and address other issues that students going into college face, often without many other reliable resources. Corps members also encourage high school students not to back down or give up when the application process gets difficult—as it so often does.
