Dr. Harry O’Neil Co-edits Book About Cognitive Readiness

Teaching and Measuring Cognitive ReadinessHarry O’Neil recently co-edited a book with Ray Perez and Eva Baker published by Springer titled, Teaching and Measuring Cognitive Readiness. The domain of cognitive readiness is roughly synonymous with 21st century skills.

The book brings together several disciplines on the construct of readiness and presents theoretical and empirical findings and their impact on adult learning.

Specific topics discussed are:

  • The need for cognitive readiness instructional and assessment strategies.
  • The need to integrate assessment into cognitive readiness training.
  • The need for theory-driven evaluation studies to increase knowledge and efficacy in teaching cognitive readiness. The need for a solid psychometric approach to the use of cognitive readiness assessments.

O’Neil’s PhD students Joan Lang, Donna Escalante, and Sutter Fox co-authored a chapter with him titled, “What is Cognitive Readiness?” Another of O’Neil’s PhD students, Eunsook Hong, contributed to a chapter titled, “Creative Thinking Abilities: Measures for Various Domains.”
