Leadership during Polarizing Times

  • What do you need in order to address polarizing topics so that they are addressed without overtaking other priorities?

USC Rossier created the Breakthrough Leadership Institute to give school leadership teams and individuals a place to think deeply about their school communities and how they can move intractable challenges forward.

The institute focuses on interrogating a local problem of practice from a variety of school district compositions–rural, urban or suburban.

Attending teams or individuals can include a diverse cross-section of positions, such as district superintendent, cabinet/c-suite members, classroom teachers, principals, instructional leaders/coaches, supervisors/directors, union presidents, school board members, community partners and teachers on special assignment.

How We Will Engage

  • Interrogate complex educational equity issues that matter to you.
  • Apply learning sciences to address problems of practice, amplify social-emotional learning strategies and avoid polarization.
  • Personalize teaching and learning in Mathematics & Reading Literacy for the wellbeing of students.
  • Move equity-centered initiatives forward with civil discourse to uphold democracy.
