Dean reappointed for new five-year term
USC Provost Elizabeth Garrett has announced the reappointment of Dean Karen Symms Gallagher as the Emery Stoops and Joyce King Stoops Dean of the USC Rossier School of Education for a new five-year term.
Dean Gallagher has served in this capacity since 2000, and this new term will begin in July 2015. The announcement followed a fourth-year review of Dean Gallagher’s leadership of the school, which included a survey, open meetings, and correspondence with both full and part-time faculty and staff.
In her announcement letter, Provost Garrett stated:
“The feedback I received expressed strong support for Dean Gallagher.
Dean Gallagher was widely praised for being an innovator willing to take risks, for raising the school’s profile, and for her strong presence in the profession nationally. Her involvement in the accreditation and reaccreditation processes, the development of the Strategic Plan, and her hard work and commitment to the school were noted with special appreciation. Many also mentioned Dean Gallagher’s exceptional success at securing support towards the Campaign. ”
“I am truly honored to be able to continue to serve USC and the Rossier School,” the Dean said. “Our mission of improving learning in urban education locally, nationally and globally is one I take very personally. I look forward to continuing to work with our incredible faculty and staff in pursuit of this critical goal.”
